Carbuncles

Carbuncles are clusters of boils caused by bacterial infections, typically by Staphylococcus aureus. They manifest as red, swollen, and painful lumps filled with pus. These infections often occur in areas of the body with hair and friction, such as the neck, back, or thighs. Carbuncles are more severe than single boils, as they involve deeper skin layers and can cause systemic symptoms like fever and fatigue. Risk factors include poor hygiene, weakened immune system, diabetes, and close contact with an infected person. Treatment often involves drainage and antibiotics to clear the infection and prevent complications. Proper wound care and hygiene are crucial to avoid recurrence and transmission.
