Chicken Pox is a contagious disease which spreads from person to person through droplets, when the patients coughs, sneezes and even during loud talking. It is caused by a virus.
The patient suffering from Chicken Pox develops fluid filled discrete lesions over trunk, face, scalp and oral cavity which later appear on limbs as well. Usually patients also complain of fever and sore throat. These lesions gradually turn turbid and then dry up within almost one week. However, lesions in different stages of evolution are present at any point in time.
As the disease is contagious, it is important to isolate the patient; if that is not possible in household, the patient as well as other family members should start wearing face mask.
Although rare, the patients with high grade persistent fever, cough and excessive skin lesions may develop pneumonia.
For correct diagnosis and treatment, it is recommended to visit nearest skin specialist/dermatologist.
